It's baaackkkkk. The most feared and famous villain in Indian cinema has made a dramatic return in SS Rajamouli's Baahubali: The Conclusion (2017). After being presumed dead, the tyrant resurfaces with a vengeance, wreaking havoc of epic proportions on Amarendra Baahubali's kingdom. Fans who have been eagerly awaiting the film for nearly two years finally got to see why they loved him so much when it finally released this weekend. The film's trailer had already shown fans what they were missing, but the full-length version of the film reveals some interesting details. It is revealed in the film that even Rajamouli wasn't aware about his return. Baahubali had explicitly told him that Gabbar Singh had died in the climax of Sholay (1975) and he shouldn't bring back his character at all. Nevertheless, Rajamouli got his way. Rajamouli had actually decided to direct Sholay 2, which was supposed to continue where Sholay left off. But a few years later, a frustrated Sridevi was not pleased with the script. She stormed into his office and complained that the story was going nowhere. It is said that she told Rajamouli to return to directing animation films instead of wasting her time on a piece of crap. That was when Rajamouli hit upon the idea of bringing back Gabbar Singh. Normally, it would be sacrilege to bring back a character from one of Bollywood's most iconic films. But the director thought it would be an interesting plot twist. It would be like seeing Happy days (1955) on TV for the first time after more than four decades. He pitched the idea before principal photography began in 2013, but it fell on deaf ears. But when the film was finally released, there weren't too many people who had forgotten about Gabbar Singh's earlier deeds. The audience reception was positive with some describing the film as "unexpectedly thrilling". "Tuesday Times" said, "The film's story is engaging and not predictable to a certain extent and there are many moments of comedy and drama that keeps you glued to your seats. The film overall has a few twists and turns that keeps you guessing till the end. Though the story line seems predictable at first, it actually gives you an edge of excitement throughout." "Times of India" gave it 5/5 saying, "Despite being a mass entertainer, 'Baahubali: The Conclusion' is an intricately crafted film. And the best part is that it doesn't make you wait to reach its conclusion." The film received many accolades including IIFA Tiger Award for Best Debut Film of 2017 by International Indian Film Academy. cfa1e77820
